This book came into being in the context of the design and construction of a new home for timelab. The project called for spatial strategies for contaminated land with the goal of linking urban transformations, economic transitions, and integrated soil remediation - based on the premise that it is no longer affordable to demolish and replace buildings on the pretext of economic efficiency - or to destroy new ground for each new required space.

The book documents the result of a year-long collaboration between common room and timelab - leading to the design and construction process of the new timelab building.Developed through a series of interviews, meetings, conversations, and workshops with various stakeholders and participants, the book attempts to engage with the space and its design process, while speculating on what a building is and how it can serve the future of community.
